Tom Jackson’s journey in Scouting and Alpha Phi Omega (APO) reflects a lifelong commitment to service, leadership, and community. A Purdue University graduate from the Alpha Gamma Chapter of APO in 1992, Tom has spent decades contributing to the values of both organizations, earning him some of the highest honors in both Scouting and APO.

Tom’s involvement in Scouting began early, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout in 1987 with the Crossroads of America Council. His Eagle Scout project—a challenging endeavor to rebuild and landscape a Shrine of the Virgin Mary—taught him perseverance as he worked with a small troop to accomplish the task. Reflecting on his Scouting days, Tom fondly remembers the numerous campouts where he developed life skills and created lasting memories. His experience was guided by a Scoutmaster who had been a member of APO at Ball State University, a connection that would later inspire Tom to join the fraternity and continue his path of service.
In Alpha Phi Omega, Tom rose to the position of Chapter President, leading the chapter through many successful service initiatives, including the popular “Overnighter” event held each semester. He often speaks highly of APO as “the best organization on campus for those who want to serve others.” His most cherished memory from his time with APO? Meeting his wife, a connection he considers the greatest outcome of his involvement with the fraternity.
Tom’s dedication to both organizations has been recognized through numerous awards. From APO, he has received the Chapter Distinguished Service Key and the prestigious Torchbearer Award. In Scouting, he’s been honored with the District Award of Merit, the Silver Beaver Award, and recognition as a NESA Outstanding Eagle Scout. His dedication to Scouting continues as he serves as a National Trustee for the Endowment and has held key leadership roles, including District Chairman, Assistant Council Commissioner, Council FOS Chair, and Troop and Pack Committee Chairman, among others.
Outside of Scouting and APO, Tom is a small business owner, manufacturing and distributing products for the HVAC industry. His sense of service extends to his local community, where he volunteers with several organizations, including the United States Veteran Reserve Corps, Kiwanis, and Changing Footprints. He is also an active member of St. Mark Catholic Church.
Tom’s story is one of a life devoted to helping others. Through Scouting and APO, he’s built a legacy of leadership, mentorship, and selflessness—values that continue to shape his life today.
