The National Capital Area Council of Scouting America has presented Dr. Vincent Kiernan with the National Outstanding Eagle Scout Award! As the esteemed Dean of the Metropolitan School of Professional Studies at The Catholic University of America, he dedicates himself to uplifting nontraditional students through diverse educational programs. His prior roles at George Mason and Georgetown Universities paved the way for groundbreaking educational reform. With a storied background in science and medical journalism, his voice has resonated for over two decades. His recent work, “Atomic Bill: A Journalist’s Dangerous Ambition in the Shadow of the Bomb,” captures the critical relationship between media and science during pivotal historical moments.
Vincent Kiernan retired last month as Dean of the Metropolitan School of Professional Studies at The Catholic University of America in Washington DC, where he led programs for working adults, veterans, and other underserved populations. He holds a doctorate in mass communication from the University of Maryland at College Park and is the author of two books examining journalists’ coverage of science. Previously, he spent 20 years as a journalist covering science and technology.
Vince earned the Eagle Scout award and the Vigil Honor in Troop 81 in Thornwood, N.Y. In the National Capital Area Council, he has served as a unit leader in Alexandria’s Pack, Troop, and Crew 120 and as an advisor in Amangamek Wipit Lodge. He currently is the District Chair of Colonial District and lives in Alexandria with his spouse, Terri Nintemann. He has two adult children, Emily and Matthew Kiernan, likewise an Eagle.
