2025 Scholarship Recipiant

APO Eagles, a recognized alumni association of Alpha Phi Omega, congratulates Uma Ludwig, from Michigan Crossroads Council is this year’s recipient of the APO Eagle’s Leaders of Service Scholarship.

Uma is a distinguished graduate of Center Line High School and the Macomb Mathematics Science Technology Center (MMSTC), an elite honors STEM program for the top students in Macomb County. Dual-enrolled at Macomb Community College during high school, she has consistently demonstrated a passion for math, science, and service. This fall, Uma will attend Michigan Technological University to pursue a degree in Environmental Engineering.

A trailblazer in Scouting America, Uma joined on the first day the program opened to female scouts, helping establish Troop 1402G. She earned the rank of Eagle Scout in 2022 and has achieved 100 merit badges. Her Eagle project involved designing and building a 10’ x 12’ x 8’ greenhouse for Cadillac Urban Gardens, a nonprofit in Detroit’s Mexicantown. With over 150 nights of camping under her belt, Uma’s adventures span from flying a plane to whitewater rafting, embodying resilience and curiosity.

Her leadership is equally strong. She served two terms as her troop’s Senior Patrol Leader and staffed National Youth Leadership Training for two summers. In high school, Uma was also a two-year varsity volleyball captain, Link Crew advisor, National Honor Society member, and Recycling Club social media coordinator.

Uma is passionate about environmental education and advocacy. For her Girl Scout Gold Award, she created the “Baskets for Beaches” initiative, developing an educational website and curriculum shared with over 100 Michigan teachers and installing cleanup baskets at state parks to reduce shoreline pollution.

Graduating Summa Cum Laude and Valedictorian of Center Line High School, Uma capped her senior year with a chemistry research project on ocean acidification, earning recognition at the Metro Detroit Science and Engineering Fair. With a strong foundation in STEM, proven leadership, and a commitment to sustainability, she is poised to make a meaningful impact on the world.

APO Eagle’s is comprised of alumni of Alpha Phi Omega, who support our mission of promoting Alpha Phi Omega to the Eagle Scout community. Alpha Phi Omega is a coeducational service fraternity based on the ideas of the Scout Oath and Scout law.
